Today, national renowned websites Barstool Sports.com , Deadspin.com stories and AwfulAnnouncing  all posted stories about alleged con man Eric Martinez and Enchantment Sports’ groundbreaking two-week series: Dream or Nightmare.

We promised you two weeks ago, this was really, really big!

It took local Albuquerque nearly all two weeks to get on it. It took the national media less than 24 hours to start going bonkers with it.

Of course, Deadspin saw an opportunity to get a jab in at ESPN and took it.

The Deadspin story also gave credit to the Albuquerque Journal, which hadn’t done a story until Oct. 24 and has only mentioned Enchantment Sports very briefly.

While we did appreciate the Journal crediting Enchantment Sports, its wording caught us off guard because of the way the Journal mentioned its own reporting first.

“ESPN Events pulled the plug Thursday on its 3-week-old partnership with the Albuquerque-based DreamHouse company as the title sponsor of the New Mexico Bowl.

“… ESPN Events’ announcement came the same day a front-page Journal story revealed that the fledgling DreamHouse has no business license with the city of Albuquerque and that its CEO, Eric G. Martinez, has faced multiple judgments for unpaid debts, including $16,717 for a credit card debt he still owes,” the Journal reported Friday.

“Stories on the Enchantment Sports website first raised questions about Martinez’s background.”El Pintojpg

The phrasing — by our interpretation — insinuates a cause-and-effect relationship: The Journal reported damning information about Martinez, and then ESPN canceled the sponsorship.

With the Journal finally taking the story to mainstream media, it was probably the blow that forced ESPN to act — even though Enchantment Sports editor Mark Smith has been badgering ESPN for three weeks, and released Part 1 of its, so far, six-part groundbreaking series “Dream or Nightmare” about Martinez on Oct. 11.

But make no mistake, the Eric Martinez/DreamHouse New Mexico Bowl fiasco would have never seen the light of day until Enchantment Sports uncovered the biggest story in New Mexico — and one that has now gone national.
