Darian Bashir, the man accused in the shooting death of Jackson Weller on May 4 in Nob Hill, was arrested early this morning (May 11).

According to the Albuquerque Police Department Bashir was arrested at a northeast heights apartment complex without incident.

Weller, a junior at UNM and non-roster player for the Lobo baseball team, was gunned down just outside of Imbibe in Nob Hill.

“Our homicide detectives and investigators worked tirelessly during the past week to identify and build a case against this violent offender,” APD Chief Mike Geier said in a news release. “This was a complex case that involved many witnesses. I appreciate the thorough job detectives did to resolve the case and bring justice to Jackson’s family and friends.”

Weller, who transferred to UNM from a junior college in the Phoenix area last year, was reportedly in fistfights with several people before the shooting, but Bashir was not one of them. The shooting was around 2:15 a.m. on May 4.

Sources have told Enchantment Sports that at least one of Weller’s friends with him at the time of the shooting was an active player on the Lobo baseball team.
