Eddy Aragon, host of “The Rock of Talk” KIVA radio news talk show (4-7 p.m. KIVA 1600 AM), will have Enchantment Sports editor in Chief Mark Smith as a guest this evening at 6.
The two Albuquerque natives will discuss the University of New Mexico men’s basketball search and the state of Lobo basketball.

Smith has worked in Albuquerque sports media on TV, radio, print and online for more than four decades and was the Lobo basketball beat writer for 15 years for the Albuquerque Journal. Smith now owns Tick Talk Media Productions, which owns and operates Enchantment Sports.
He was the first to break the story of Paul Weir’s ouster as Lobo coach, and the first to list the three candidates who have officially been interviewed by UNM athletic director Eddie Nuñez to fill the vacancy.
Smith, a frequent guest on numerous radio shows on KKOB and KNML for 30 years, was banned from the stations last year when operation director Jared Hart was hired at the Cumulus-owned stations — and shortly after Smith exposed Dreamhouse New Mexico Bowl title sponsor Eric Martinez as an alleged scam artist.
The story made national news and Dreamhouse was stripped of its sponsorship and the ESPN Events owned-game took a huge hit to its credibility.

Jeff Siembieda, the game’s longtime executive director and a good friend of Martinez, is also a radio sports talk show co-host at KNML.
Smith has no such ban with KIVA, which is owned by the controversial Aragon who is known for being one of the few talk shows hosts who talks truth over public pressure.
“I grew up reading Mark Smith, and he’s the most credible sports news source in New Mexico,” Aragon said. “I look forward to every conversation with him. When he’s in the KIVA, journalism is alive and well in New Mexico.”
