The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame will not have a class of 2020, and will instead honor the 2019 class next spring during its annual celebration weekend and banquet.
This week, the NMSHOF Board of Directors unanimously voted on the change.
The annual awards banquet/induction, previously scheduled last April, was postponed due to the COVID-19 shutdown.
The 2019 class will be honored in April 2021 at the celebration weekend and banquet.
The board has started working on the Class of 2021, and are now accepting nominations.
Nominations will be open until July 31, and can be made at www.nmshof.com.
“We will make it a very special weekend for our seven 2019 inductees – Holly Holm, Carolyn Thompson, Danny Romero, Rob Evans, Jimmy Collins, Alan Branch and Nick Pino — this coming April,” said board president Dick Johnson. “We will also honor the 2019 Annual Award winners.
“At the same time, we are also focusing on the 2021 class.”

The Charity Golf Classic is scheduled for April 10 at Twin Warriors Golf Club with the banquet slated for April 11 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
All previously purchased tickets and sponsorships will be honored for the April events.
“The safety and health of our attendees in our main priority,” Johnson said. “We also want to make it the best event possible, and there is still much to be determined as to future guidelines.
Johnson said the board will continue to update the public with further changes.
“We just really want to thank everyone for their support,” Johnson said. “We know that we, like New Mexico, will be back stronger and better than ever.”
