This year will mark a quarter-century of promoting boxing for Lenny Fresquez.
Fresquez, along with event coordinator Doris Robinson, may put on a card this year to commemorate Fresquez’s 25th year of promoting. Fresquez, who some say is the godfather of boxing promotion in New Mexico, has put on many champions throughout his career, promoting his first card when he put on future flyweight champion of the world Danny Romero Jr.’s fight card against Facundo Rodriguez in August of 1994.
Fresquez has promoted other world champions’ fight cards, including Johnny Tapia and Cruz Carbajal. He is still the only promoter/manager for arguably one of the top three female fighters of all time: Holly Holm.
When Holm left boxing to enter the MMA circle, Fresquez was still her promoter and negotiated Holm’s fight with then-UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey. Holm stunned the MMA world by preventing Rousey’s win of the UFC crown, making Holm one of the most popular figures in sports.
Robinson, who has been working with Fresquez for 11 years in boxing and MMA, gave news of the event first. Stay tuned for more details.
