This week’s Galles Chevrolet Metro Player of the Week is Xavier Ivey-Saud:
Manzano Running Back Xavier Ivey-Saud
Saud says, “I have a heart for offense.” And what a heart he had last Friday night for coach Phillip Martinez’s Monarchs, with 27 carries for 217 yards and three touchdowns.
One of Saud’s touchdowns was an explosive 80-yard run. “He (Saud) broke an 80-yard run in the second half and everyone witnessed his speed,” says coach Martinez. “I don’t think people realize how fast he really is, being labelled a power back. His speed was on display on that play.”
While everyone loves the explosive offensive stats put up by Saud, it was the little things that always catches a coach’s eye.
“He had a great game finding the holes and making his moves,” says Martinez… “He also made some key blocks against pass rushers for our quarterback (Dakota Powell).”
Saud had a big smile on his face receiving the award, but at no time did he take sole credit for Manzano’s 33-17 victory over West Mesa. “It went really well for us as a team,” says Saud. “We had some players, come back this week that we have been missing. As a team I felt we all came together.”
