Consensus 4-star stretch power forward Antwan January of Santa Monica HS, Santa Monica CA has received quite a few visitors lately, and one of those was University of New Mexico head coach Paul Weir this past weekend. January’s Twitter feed shows it all.
EnchantmentSports.com contacted the 6-10 250lb power forward to about his visit with coach Weir.
“It went well,” says January. “He told me a lot about New Mexico basketball, and plenty of valuable information about the school.”
January is currently being recruited by many schools across the country and certain recruiting services say he has eighteen offers; and while January says that he is open to all offers and wants to see how the whole recruiting thing plays out, his Twitter photo says he is down to nine schools.
January did tell us Enchantment Sports that he will be taking an official visit to Albuquerque sometime in early October.
“I’m really really excited to come down there (Albuquerque), for an official visit and check out The Pit,” says January. “I will be down there in October, I’m not real sure about the exact date but I believe it will be early October.”
For those that haven’t seen January’s game here is a YouTube highlight video from May of 2018 with the Compton Magic:
January describes himself as a 6-9 stretch forward, that plays with big energy.
“I do all the little things like diving on the floor, go after loose balls, I’m a pretty good shot blocker, and will bring a lot of things to the program I end up at,” January says.
“I work on my game, all the time. I want to be the best player that I can be, so I work on everything. I want to perfect my game, so that I’ ready for that time that I step onto the court.”
“I really like the New Mexico staff,” says January. “I’ve talked a lot with Brandon Mason, he is a great guy, and I really enjoyed meeting coach Weir, and the time spent with him. He has me excited for my visit and I can’t wait to get down there.”
